Glasfabrik
The Glasfabrik is located in Leipzig-Leutzsch. During the GDR era, the former machine factory became a state-owned enterprise where glass products were manufactured. Having stood empty for many years after reunification, it has become an example of East German industrial history and its impact on people and space. With the expansion of Leipzig, the site in the Leutzsch district is now moving from its decades-long peripheral location closer to the center of urban perception. Initiated by an alliance between the new owners and cultural practitioners, who have come together in the newly founded association.
Glasfabrik e.V., the former factory site is developing into a cultural center for urban development, ecology and culture that pursues an interdisciplinary approach. The location aims to lead the discourse on issues related to sustainability, the development of cities, living conditions and strategies for dealing with climate change, as well as the role of industrial culture around a vision of our future coexistence in the city, facilitating theoretical and practical formats together with a local and international network. The aim is to initiate projects that have an investigative, mediating and discursive character.
The Glasfabrik itself wants to invite people to negotiate and experience current topics. In addition to discursive and artistic formats, the Glasfabrik project always pursues a multi-perspective, interdisciplinary and participatory approach in all its programs, which is expressed in a holistic program design. In addition, the Glasfabrik is intended to be a place of experimentation where transformation processes are accompanied by a diverse audience.
