Sounds Folkestone and Folkestone Fringe
Sounds Folkestone is a dedicated hub and portal for classical music in and around the Folkestone area. It acts as a portal and curatorial platform to support and showcase a wide range of high quality solo, chamber, vocal, and early music in the town. The initiative places a strong emphasis on music education, mentoring young string players through the Sacconi Quartet (the town’s quartet-in-residence), and hosting masterclasses, bursaries, and young people’s ensembles, such as Sounds Folkestone Young Strings. Partnering with projects like Folkestone Early Music, Folkestone New Music, and the Tosti International Singing Academy (“Folkestone On Song”), Sounds Folkestone has become a significant classical music destination for both world-class visiting artists and local performers alike.
Folkestone Fringe supports bold, local, and collaborative art projects – made with and for the people who live here. Since 2007, Folkestone Fringe has worked across the town — in empty shops, skateparks, schools and seaside venues — to bring art into everyday spaces. We produce and support creative projects, festivals, and public programmes that connect people to each other, and to the places that they share. We believe public art shouldn’t just be seen — it should be shaped by the people around it. That’s why our work is community-led, site-responsive, and always open to participation.
