APRB and Hoprich
Since 2020, the Endowment Fund Broumov – City of Culture has been responsible for preparing Broumov’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2028. Although we did not ultimately win the title, participating in the final round of the competition sparked major changes in the region. We continue to develop the region through culture and implement projects that arose as a result of the candidacy as “Broumov 2028+”. Our goal is to connect the Broumov region with Europe and create strong ties.
HOPRICH is a magical hill in the Broumov region; a place to breathe in ~ breathe out ~ a space for active creation and transformation of the world.
Hoprich is a baroque site of a former parish yard in Martínkovice, a few hundred meters from the Czech-Polish border. The site is undergoing a slow self-help reconstruction with respect for traditional building methods and materials, but also for the contemporary world. Hoprich is a place for independent culture and community activities, offering a year-round cultural, artistic and educational programme thanks to collaborations with other Czech and foreign partners. It is a place that is fundamentally open to co-creation by visiting artists as well as long-term and temporary residents of the region.
In September 2025 a workshop was held at Hoprich including Knedlik (from the School of Applied Arts in Prague). The chosen tree for Treeline is an old oak tree. A walk was undertaken, observation and discovery with task cards. Painting and writing took place and the creation of oak faces from clay and natural materials.
